So this video started going around my facebook today, with about a dozen of my female friends sharing the link with comments like, and “Everyone needs to see this”, and “All girls should watch this,” and “This made me cry.” And I’m not trying to shame those girls! I definitely understand why they would do so. And I don’t want to be a killjoy. But as I clicked link and started watching the video, I started to feel a slight sense of discomfort. i used to make things. and create things. and document things. but somewhere along the way i started to listen to some things people around me said. i carried my camera around too much. i read comments about how ego-centric and selfish i was. it was upsetting and confusing and i couldn’t be sure it wasn’t true and i don’t want to be ego-centric and selfish, so i stopped posting things.

slowly. the stopping posting things led to stopping creating things. i let the mean words settle in and take root.

and i’m not really sure how to pull those roots up. they’re not really things that a new years resolution will contend with. i have a mad hectic job on top of these words now, with a pretty strict social media policy.

what i’m saying, what i’m saying is i miss making and creating and being someone who isn’t afraid to make and create and share. but i’m not really sure how to not be that person now.

but maybe ~~saying~~ typing it out loud is the first step.
